Conference Games
Prior to a season, a conference will decide which games are "conference games" and which are not. Because a team played another member of the same conference does not mean it’s a "conference game" and because a team is playing a member not in their conference does not mean it’s not a "conference game"...

It matters not to me if it's idiotic or not.  It's factual and I like sticking to facts.
 
FWIW, the default "conference" search ignores whether the game is a "conference" game or not, but you can't get conference results unless you look exactly at what the conference views it's conference games to be.  There is an option to get that.
 
More specifically, I'll give an example.  If you look at the results of the SEC in 1963 and you just count games against other conference teams, it looks like Auburn won the conference:
 
 
When the actual conference results are as follows:
 
 
While looking at how teams did against their conference opponents is good information, looking at conference standings that don't show the how teams actually finished in the conference is worthless.
 
Some of these stuff runs a fine line.
